Flavius Claudius Constantinus

Emperor 337 - 340

Constantine II, eldest son of Constantine and Fausta, was made Caesar in 317. He received Spain, Gaul and Britain as his share of the empire after Constantine's death. Constans, youngest son of Constantine, became Caesar in 333 and received Italy, Africa and the Balkans as his share of the empire. In 340 Constantine II invaded Italy, but was killed in battle. Constans then ruled half the empire for the next decade, visiting Britain in 343, but in 350, while enjoying a hunting expedition, he was overthrown by his general Magnentius.
