Caligula.jpg (3756 bytes)
Caius Caesar
Emperor 37-41

Caius Caesar [b. 12 ],  nicknamed Caligula ("little boot")   by the soldiers of his father Germanicus, showed signs of instability soon after his accession and apparently became insane. His reign of caprice and terror, occasionally enlivened by such notions as making his horse Consul, ended in assassination in 41, after which he was immediately condemned to "damnatio memoriae."
