Domitian

Octavian received the honorific "Augustus" in 27 bc, marking the start of the Roman Empire. After an eventful 41 year reign, he was succeeded by his son-in-law Tiberius; the Julio-Claudian dynasty lasted until Nero's suicide in 68. Galba, Otho and Vitellius briefly occupied the throne [69]; Vespasian succeeded Vitellius, founding the Flavian dynasty which endured until Domitian was overthrown in 96.
