Maximinus II

Licinius

Maximinus2.jpg (4662 bytes)
Galerius Valerius Maximinus
Caesar 305-309
Augustus 309-313

Maximinus [b. 270], Galerius' son-in-law, became Caesar on the elevation of Galerius, and Augustus in 309 after both he and Constantine   protested the elevation of Licinius as Augustus. He was a severe persecutor of Christians. In 313 Maximinus made the mistake of invading Licinius' territory, and was severely defeated, escaping only by disguising himself as a slave. He then took his own life at Tarsus, late July or early August 313.
