This period began with an invasion of Parthian Persia by Mark Antony which was heavily defeated. Thereafter Augustus negotiated a modus vivendi and for the rest of this period the Romans and Parthians were at peace.  Parthian2.jpg (9956 bytes) During the first century a.d. the Parthian Kingdom became more Persian in its culture, as the coin portraits witness. Greek coin legends become less legible as Aramaic and  Persian became the predominant languages.
