Domitian.jpg (4245 bytes)
T. Flavius Domitianus
Emperor 81-96

Domitian [b. 51] was kept in the background during the reigns of his father and brother, and determined to act decisively upon acceding to the throne. He began well, invading Germany and winning the loyalty of the army, then found himself at war with Dacia and had to conclude an uneasy peace with Decebalus. A great administrator  and capable military leader, he lacked commanding personal presence. Severity in administering justice, coldness in dealing with people, and  inability to control the Senate bred conspiracies, and his last years became a reign of terror, ending in assassination by a palace conspiracy in which his wife was involved.
Relatives depicted on coins:

Domitia - wife;
Vespasian Jr. - adopted son

The small flan clip sheds some light on minting practice; it is the scar
