Nero.jpg (4718 bytes)
Nero Claudius Caesar Drusus Germanicus
Emperor 54-68

Nero [b. 37 ]  was adopted by Claudius. His reign began well under tutelage of Seneca, but in 62 he assumed unlimited power. After Rome was ravaged by fire in 64, this disaster and Nero's enthusiasm for Greek arts made him  unpopular. Revolts broke out  and after the Praetorians deserted him, Nero commited suicide.

Relatives depicted on coins:
Octavia - 1st wife;
Poppaea - 2nd wife;

Claudia - daughter;
Statilia Messalina - 3rd wife.
